Ready, Set, Cook! Curriculum

The Ready, Set, Cook! Curriculum is designed to teach students basic cooking skills using a microwave, while also covering important topics like nutrition and kitchen safety. This simple-to-follow curriculum includes 40 easy-to-make recipes with helpful pictures.

The curriculum is divided into five chapters:

Chapter 1: Add to It! introduces basic recipes that can be customized with extra ingredients. For example, an omelet can start with just eggs and cheese, but you can add meats and vegetables for more flavor and variety.
Chapter 2: Eat Fresh! encourages students to use fresh ingredients with recipes such as steamed broccoli, fresh spinach, salmon, and fruit parfaits.
Chapter 3: Make It a Meal! teaches students how to create meals that include a variety of food groups for a well-balanced dish. Recipes in this chapter include spaghetti with meat sauce, oatmeal, salad, and French toast.
Chapter 4: Share It! focuses on recipes perfect for group gatherings and serving multiple people. Some examples include cracker dip, buffalo chicken dip, and Rice Krispies treats.
Chapter 5: Use It and Reuse It! shows students how to cook a dish and then use the leftovers in different meals throughout the week, such as chicken breasts, chicken fajitas, and chicken salad.

Some recipes include Speed It Up! tips that streamline the cooking process by skipping or combining steps to make preparation quicker.

The instructor’s guide has clear learning objectives, ingredient lists, discussion ideas, links to additional resources, and helpful YouTube cooking videos to assist with the recipes. It also includes assessment forms, student checklists, a sample shopping list, and more.
